Campaign Message:
We are messaging you as campaigners for major change in the Computer Industry. For decades the industry has built unnecessary complexity into software-based systems in order to maximise user dependency, and business profits. When such dependency and profits are applied on a global scale, the global technology providers are the only true beneficiaries, as illustrated through their accumulation of vast wealth, control of core infrastructure, and gains in political influence.
Beside complexity by-design, there are two other root causes of the problem with software-based systems: Software development is essentially Codification of Human Intelligence (CHI, not AI), and The Internet is a very insecure global communications network.
The first problem can be resolved by ensuring that human knowledge is appropriately documented before it is organised (codified) into computer code and data, because not doing so results in the knowledge getting forgotten, lost, plagiarised or stolen within vast amounts of software and data.
Resolution of the second problem necessitates provision of Economy Wide Networks (EWNs), each available only to organisations and individuals within the economy, subject to government approved regulation, and paid for and maintained through user license fees.
The risks of over-dependence on global technologies and their providers are increasing day by day, so like global warming, democratic governments must act, sooner rather than later.
